Text Box: Levi is so smart that he’s already in college. Actually it’s the child care center at the college where I teach but what’s the difference? He’s so cute that Gerber and Pampers want him to advertise their products. Fortunately we would not think of exploiting him in that way, at least not until he turns two. He has a head full of hair, a mouth full of teeth, and a heart made of gold.

Levi on carLevi birthday pictureText Box: Baby Eyes

I look into your infant eyes
And wonder how you’ll grow
You stare back so playfully
As if you really know

So cute, so smart, so full of life
A doctor, a lawyer, a teacher I see
Maybe a famous athlete or president you’ll be?

I listen so attentively
To every noise you make
Searching for its meaning as if it held my fate
Though not words I treat your little sounds
As if they were important, urgent, and profound

How could anyone not love you
With those adorable baby eyes
Even a heart of stone would melt before your plaintive cries

I wish I could remember
That all people were once like you:
Precious little bundles wrapped in pink or blue
Filled with possibilities equally as true
I wish I could look into their eyes
And see a baby too
