Chief Rabbi of Uganda Will Attend
Rabbi Gershom Sizomu is the chief rabbi of the Abayudaya Jewish community in Uganda. He is also a member of the Israelite Board of Rabbis who has known his friend, Chief Rabbi Capers Funnye for many years. Rabbi Sizomu has worshipped at Beth Shalom Bnai Zaken many times; in fact, when he is in Chicago he often says at the home of Rabbi Funnye and his lovely wife Mary.
Rabbi Gershom was recently elected to the Ugandan Parliament and is in the final stages of opening a new synagogue. Yet, he is making a special effort to attend the International Israelite Convention in New York and celebrate the inauguration of his friend and colleague. He understands the common problems that Black Jews face around the world. He will be joined by delegations from Nigeria, South Africa, and Ghana.
Rabbi Sizomu will bring and important perspective to this convention. We look forward to hearing his message.
